Principle-based education through the wellspring of scripture, history, culture, literature, and nature.
Our definition of a principle-based education:
We focus on teaching principles of character through exposure to history, literature, the arts, and more. Our approach stresses building character and heart knowledge instead of building a mind-only collection of facts and skills; however, skills can be taught within a principle-based context. We use the power of books and stories as a lens to see principles and their application. We help students develop the skills to discuss and understand principles according to their age and abilities.
At Wellspring Inspired Learning we believe that a gentle approach that respects the agency of the learner is best for deep learning. Engaging the agency and desire of the learner is fundamental to that deeper learning. We believe that this type of learning happens through a layering process over time through consistent exposure to great ideas accompanied by the light of truth. Acquiring light is our aim.
We start each class with scripture, with special emphasis on the Book of Mormon, from which we springboard into learning. We find that starting with scripture invites the Spirit, provides an important foundation, and increases learning.
Language arts skills are gently taught within the context of our course of study in history, literature, cultures, nature, etc. We strive to make use of the power of literature, story, art, poetry, and music throughout the topics. Learning from good literature will be a hallmark of what we do. We aim to inspire the heart as well as the mind.
We prefer to inspire rather than require, and as a result, we do not grade work or provide grades for students; however, we will mentor students and kindly give feedback where appropriate.
